Peru is the top exporter in the world of fish meal and fish oil, but also produces a fantastic variety of fish, including mahi-mahi, tuna, shrimp, scallops, squid, mackerel, anchovies and sardines, in addition to processed food in surimi, burgers, and nuggets, etc.

Furthermore, Peru is now developing an active aquaculture industry in scallops, shrimp, trout, paiche and other Amazonian species.

Export Data

Peruvian exports of seafood reached $ 1.6 billion in 2019, of which, $ 194 million was exported to the USA. Giant squid (known in Peru as Pota) global exports were $ 843 million, followed by shrimp with $ 231 million and scallops with $ 88 million.

Other important Peruvian seafood exports in the same year included Mahi Mahi ($ 52 million), trout ($ 39 million), and canned anchovies ($ 38 million).
