Diverse Manufacturers

Peru's metalworking industry manufactures diverse products, from auto parts to food industry machinery.

Diverse Manufacturers

The use of materials and techniques of high quality as well as the application of state-of-the-art technology guarantee a supply that complies with international standards.

Metallurgy and metalworking

The main metallurgy products meet the requirements of multiple activities: mining, cement factories, agriculture, fishing, hydro electrical stations, and sugar industry. The most important product is copper wire, whose high demand is due to its usage as an input for the manufacturing of conductivity wires. Other products include copper rods, laminated bars, as well as thin zinc plates.

As for metalworking, Peru is centered in encouraging a high value-added export supply. The manufacturing of machinery and components for the mining, construction and fishing sectors as well as engineering equipment for large projects are the main products of this industry. Peruvian metalworking also produces auto part replacements and original equipment manufacturing for the glass industry, gasket and brake system production, and machinery for the food industry, among others.

Main Products Include:

  • Electrical Conductors
  • Refrigerators and Freezers
  • Floor Tiles - Marble and Travertine
  • Molded and Glazed Objects
  • Machinery Parts and Pieces
  • Products made with copper zinc, and steel
  • Auto parts

Construction Materials and Finishings

Peruvian products for construction stand out because of their technical quality and their wide supply of designs. Some of the most representative are marble and floor tiles, ceramic revetments, toilets and sinks, iron and steel construction bars, and Portland cement, among others.

Nonmetallic Mining

Peru has large quarries of nonmetallic minerals whose transformation into final goods is being done applying state-of-the-art technology. The main export products are baryte, used in the manufacturing of paints, x-rays, and oil-drilling mud; kaolinite, used in the manufacturing of paints and rubber; cement, whose usage is both structural and ornamental; and talc, used in the manufacturing of paints.

Chemical Industry

It features the manufacturing of fundamental inputs for the mining, agro industry, and fishing sectors. This industry has reached a highly diversified degree and there exist more than one hundred plants that offer a number of products that surpass 200 substances. Its main products are zinc oxide, boric acid, dicalcium phosphate, lead oxide, and acrylic fibers, as well as pharmaceutical and cleaning products.

Wood and its Products

The Peruvian Amazon region is a strategic reserve to the sustainable world production of lumber. Many tropical species like mahogany, cedar, cumala, congona, and capirona are successfully entering the international market transformed into products like saw milled wood, boards, and plywood, as well as in the manufacturing of furniture, doors, molds, and others used in construction.

The sector is adapting to its new legal framework and to the sustainability of forest resources through the granting of concessions requiring the implementation of responsible management practices and environmental protection. These concessions are now mandatory for the access to custodian chains and/or forest certification. The main export companies have started out the modernization of their plants in all their production chain: sawmilling, drying kilns, molds, and machinery, having the purpose to add more value to their products. This sector also consists of paper industry plants that offer products such as diapers and several types of paper that supply the graphic and editorial industry.
